The year got off to a flying start with a Change Makers event that proved so popular we had to change venue! Almost thirty attendees joined us in Totnes to understand more about the possibilities of using thermal imaging cameras with community groups.

Dan Parnell, who has supported Sustainable South Brent’s thermal imaging camera scheme, led the session. He showcased various cameras and discussed lessons learnt by Sustainable South Brent and issues to be considered when setting up a camera lending scheme.

The Q&A section of the day highlighted some key points, including: Dan’s useful qualification as a Level One Thermographer; options for borrowing a camera (either a local group or South Hams District Council’s lending scheme); and the need to learn more about interpreting images further.

Participants said that it was interesting to “hear about projects and impact of imaging for communities,” and to “understand more about opportunities for engaging communities.” They learned “how useful and relatively easy thermal imaging is” and had the chance to consider “possible ways forward.”

If you’d like to find out more about opportunities to use thermal imaging cameras in your community, get in touch with Dan at dan@sussh.org.
