On Tuesday 17th June we gathered at Follaton House alongside The Bioregional Learning Centre, Devon Climate Emergency, and South Hams District Council to host an afternoon session looking at joined up climate and nature action in South Devon.
We were joined by representatives from organisations such as Moor Trees, Apricot Centre, Dartmoor Nature Alliance, Riverford Organic Farmers, The Met Office, Plymouth City Council, CAG Devon, Duchy of Somerset Estate, South Devon National Landscapes, and many more.
We heard from Isabel Carlisle from The Bioregional Learning Centre on the importance and vast potential of working together within a bioregion, we also heard from Dr Rufus Howard, a Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment from Greenfriars, on what a bioregional plan could look like and how it could be funded.
Fantastic conversations were had in the workshop with strong themes emerging, particularly the need to use plans that are already in place. This was a great step towards creating a solid network for action within a bioregion and we look forward to continuing this discussion with future sessions.
If you are keen to learn more about bioregioning in South Devon, the BLC are hosting an immersive journey into the heart of bioregional practice.
